Praga District

Praga is an old district of Warsaw city on the eastern side of the Vistula river. City centre, Old Town, New Town, Lazienki Park and Palace are all located on the western side of the river. It is the only place in Warsaw where you can see remains of the 19^th century industrial town because Praga was not affected as seriously as left bank of the city by Second World War.

Today district is a combination of what survived and was built after the war. Praga is slowly getting fame of cultural heart of Warsaw. There are lots of theatres, galleries, artistic workshops here and some concerts, happenings and festivals take place here.

Most famous theatres of Praga are Nowy Praga Theatre, Zygmunt Hubner Powszechny Theatre – one of the leading theatres in Poland and Rampa Theatre known for its musical repertoire.

In the old part of Praga, at 27 Zabkowska Street, there is the oldest vodka factory in Warsaw, Koneser. Today it is closed to visitors and no vodka is produced here any longer but its building is still impressive.

Important tourist site in Praga is Orthodox Church of St. Maria Magdalena. It was built in 1867 – 1869 by Russian architect Mikolaj Syczew. It is located today in front of Wilenski Station.
