Poster Museum at Wilanow


more The Poster Museum at Wilanów was opened in 1968 as a branch of the National Museum in Warsaw. The nucleus of the collection, namely several thousands of posters from the National Museum in Warsaw were granted by Professor Stanislav Lorentz, the Directore of the National Museum. Kopernik Science Centre

The Copernicus Science Centre building was erected on the bank of the Vistula River in the very heart of Warsaw (the corner of Wybrzeze Kosciuszkowskie and Zajecza streets, above the Wislostrada tunnel). In June 2008 the tender for the construction of our building was completed. In July 2008, first spade was put in the ground at the construction site and the building has started.

Museum was founded in the former tram depot on Przyokopowa Street in the Wola Quarter. It was opened in 2006 on the 60th anniversary of the outbreak of fighting in Warsaw in 1944. It is very modern museum with audio-visual media which recall the atmosphere of insurrectionary Warsaw. The Museum is a tribute of Warsaw’s residents to those who fought and died for independent Poland and its free capital. The exhibition depicts fighting and everyday life during the Rising, keeping occupation terror in the background.

Archeological Museum in Warsaw

The Archeological Museum is housed in the historical Arsenal which was a key element of Warsaw’s fortifications. It was built in 1638 – 1647 in the Baroque style by King Wladyslaw IV Vasa. Many exhibits date from the Neolithic period and come from Poland, wider Europe, Asia, America and Africa.

Ethnographic Museum in Warsaw

The Ethnographic Museum is housed in a Neo-Renaissance building on the south side of Malachowski Square – former head office of the Land Credit Association which was built in 1854 – 1858. It was built to a design by Italian architect who lived in Warsaw – Henryk Marconi.

Museum of the Polish Army

Museum was founded by Marshal Jozef Pilsudski in 1920 but its present location and style comes from 1933. It contains a collection of Polish arms and armour from medieval times to the end of the Second World War. It is the largest collection of this kind in Poland. The oldest exhibit is a gold helmet from the time of the first Christian kings.

National Museum in Warsaw

National Museum was founded in 1862 as a Museum of Fine Arts. It has its present status since 1916 is known as the National Museum. Since 1938 Museum has its own building designed by Tadeusz Tolwinski, between 1965 – 1972 some additional sections were added.
