The Warsaw Philharmonic - The National Orchestra and Choir of Poland, which celebrated its centenary in 2001, is one of the oldest musical institutions in Europe. It was created thanks to the initiative of a group of Polish aristocrats and financiers: Natalia, Stefan and Stanislaw Lubomirski, Maurycy and Tomasz Zamoyski, Wladyslaw Tyszkiewicz, Leopold Julian Kronenberg (son of the founder of the Bank of Commerce) and, from the musical world: Ludwik Grossman, Emil Mlynarski, Aleksander Rajchman, Marian Sokolowski, and others.

Wspolczesny Theatre

Wspolczesny (Modern) Theatre was established in 1949. It is known for performing drama and comedy shows for more than fifty years. The first show of “Stevenson’s Star” by Donald Ogden Stewart took place here in the 1949 and received very good reviews.

Grand Theatre / National Opera

Opera was brought to Poland just thirty years after it first appeared in Florence, by Royal Prince Wladyslaw IV Vasa. In 1628 he invited the first Italian opera troupe to Warsaw. For over 170 years the Teatr Wielki (Grand Theatre) has been Poland's grandest opera and ballet theatre. It was built in 1825-1833 to a design by the Italian architect Antonio Corazzi of Livorno.

Sabat Theatre

Sabat Theatre is located in the heart of Warsaw. It has a style of Revue Theatre. It links two traditions: the Cabaret of the 20’s and the more modern Variety Show, continuing their elegance, style and design. Through them guests are able to meet actors, dancers, singers and musicians.

Syrena Theatre

Syrena Theatre was established in 1945 in Lodz by Jerzy Jurandot. In 1948 it was moved to Warsaw. In 195 it was nationalized and since 1999 it belongs to local authorities. Among actors of the time of beginning of theatre’s history were: Adolf, Dymsza, Ludwik Sempolinski, Jadwiga Andrzejewska, Mira Ziminska, Loda Halama, Helena Grossowna, Kazimierz Krukowski.

Studio Teatralne Theatre

Studio Teatralne works in Warsaw Since 2006. It was established by director Tomasz Zadrozny. Education system in Studio has been created in Russian style of theatre art. Studio Teatralne is a school of acting and different techniques of artistic performing. Many guests from abroad are invited to conduct lessons. For students some free lessons are given here.

Studio Buffo Theatre

Studio Buffo is probably best music theatre in Warsaw. It is located in the building of YMCA (Young Men’s Christian Association) in use since 1934. During the World War 2, building was occupied by Gestapo Police. First activity of the studio was exhibition of radios organized by Philips Company.

Powszechny Theatre

Powszechny Theatre was the first theatre opened after the World War 2. Until the end of 1940s it was a seat of Municipal Dramatic Theatres. Then it was reconstructed and opened again in July 1950 under the directorship of Karol Borowski.

National Theatre

On 19th November 1765 His Royal Highness Stanislaw August Poniatowski's Operatic Players presented their first performance of Jozef Bielawski's comedy The Interlopers (Natreci) based on a play by Moliere. Since the Operatic Players were the first professional company to play in Polish, it has become a tradition to commemorate the date as that of the birth of Polish National Theatre.

Dramatyczny Theatre

Dramatyczny Theatre was opened in 1949 under the name of Theatre of Home of Polish Army. In 1955 it received location in building of Palace of Culture and Science. Two years later is was taken over by city authorities and its name was changed to Dramatyczny Theatre (Dramatic).

Ateneum Theatre

Ateneum Theatre was opened in 1928 by famous Polish actor of those times, Stefan Jaracz. He was also the director of the theatre and today Ateneum Theatre has also name of Theatre of Stefan Jaracz. Building of the theatre was built in 1927 but until October 1928 it served as a seat of the League of Professional Cyclists.
