The aim of the Festival of Jewish Culture in Warsaw is to reconstruct the atmosphere of the Próżna street and the Grzybowski Square and depict the lost world of Polish Jews.
During the festival, Jewish cafes, restaurants, shops, workshops are open to visitors. This event allows to immerse in the world which does not exist anymore. There can be found many souvenirs, traditional sweets, craft works which refer to Jewish culture and history. Jewish merchants, circus artists, painters, shoemakers, tailors, printers, blacksmiths, sellers go out and walk along Warsaw streets and fill them with sounds of hubbub, talks, singing. You can hear traditional Jewish songs, klezmer music, synagogue singing as well as take part in many exhibitions, performances and shows. Science sessions, meetings with poets and other eminent figures are also provided during the festival. Pre-war movies, modern performances, workshops related to Jewish culture (dance, song, ceramics, calligraphy), lectures and discussion panels give a chance to learn more about Jewish culture, history and traditions.
Jewish artists and the most eminent figures of Jewish culture have come to Warsaw from around the world each year since 12 years. The 13th Festival of Jewish Culture in Warsaw is held between 27.08 – 04.09. 2016.
